Linda Sladek is a writer who lives in Portland, Oregon. Her background includes years abroad studying in France, travel on four continents, and a career teaching English to non-native speakers. She traveled to Myanmar for three weeks in May and June 2011, in order to revisit the country, then officially still Burma, where she spent just seven days in 1987 during a six-month trip to Asia.
All of the names of the Burmese mentioned in this blog have been changed. None of the photographs correspond to the people interviewed.
